Titre projeté du mémoire ou de la thèse : "Contemporary Expressions of Treaty Nationhood in the Qu’Appelle Treaty territory"

First Nations people are concerned that Canadians and government do not comprehend the significance of the ‘numbered’ treaties or the treaty relationship. The inability to comprehend and build upon treaty history is intriguing and merits further investigation; after all, the signing of treaties is the foundation upon which Canada as a nation was established. As a First Nation person I am concerned that failure to understand the importance of treaties and the treaty relationship will result in the erosion of treaty rights and further disintegration of First Nations/non-FN relations. I foresee that a reduction in societal tension can be achieved through a clearer understanding of how and why the treaty relationship is important to FN, government and civil society. In this regard, my study will (re) examine contemporary expressions and animation of treaty nationhood, political development and ‘nation’ status for Treaty 4 First Nations.
